You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent slot 91 on Tykee Smith while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots sat unaddressed.

The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.

A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 25
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a rangy last line of defense. More want than need.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
Kris Jenkins in the 41st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 59
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in slot 57. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 83
Nothing to complain about; Mike Sainristil went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 97
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots to take Tykee Smith, a safety that was not the priority.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 94
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick 92, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Isaiah Adams · OT · rank 122
Isaiah Adams in pick No. 125 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 128
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
A reach on Braelon Allen in the 135th pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 201
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Speights at the 203rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
Matthew Jones at the Round 6 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 226
They paid sticker price for Trevor Keegan in No. 219, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 249
Dwight McGlothern at pick No. 246 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
