The war room fell hard for MarShawn Lloyd, and it showed at the 95th overall pick: 33 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hart. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. With wide receiver and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 23 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Javon Bullard in slot 64 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They barely believed it either: Brandon Dorlus still on the board at the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Marist Liufau at pick No. 88 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good price on Braden Fiske in No. 90, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zak Zinter at the 92nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
MarShawn Lloyd at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kris Abrams-Draine in pick No. 125 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 135th pick on Malik Mustapha with wide receiver and tight end unsolved.
Kamal Hadden at pick 138 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Cam Hart here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Cody Schrader in No. 164, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kitan Oladapo is a better player than Round 5, Pick 33 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
No drama and no debate, Jawhar Jordan went about where he belonged in the 203rd pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid up for Matthew Jones at the 217th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Trevor Keegan at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Taulia Tagovailoa went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Eric Gentry in slot 246 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Mark Perry in Round 7, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
