Thirty-one other rooms let Javon Bullard slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at pick 88. Highway robbery. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Wright proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nice patience on Jordan Morgan, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 9. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Chop Robinson in the 57th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Javon Bullard in Round 3, Pick 25 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Brenden Rice at No. 91 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Tyrice Knight come to them and pounced at pick 125. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value said wait; Jaylen Wright in the 135th overall pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Jase McClellan at slot 217 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Darius Muasau went about where he belonged in pick No. 221. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 246 with a little surplus value in Joshua Cephus. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
