The Jaylen Wright pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 33 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The Mustapha pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter.
They will replay Kamren Kinchens at pick 52 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tyler Guyton at the 57th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mike Sainristil at the 88th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Gabriel Murphy in No. 91, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 125 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 35: Malik Mustapha adds a safety while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots keeps waiting.
Rasheen Ali in No. 203 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Christian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value said wait; Matthew Jones in the 221st pick says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
