Somebody in the Round 4 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Christian Haynes, the No. 77 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
They are betting McGlothern proves the room right and everyone else wrong. It is not that Mustapha is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They did well to land Kamren Kinchens in Round 2, Pick 9, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Graham Barton in slot 57 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good price on Mike Sainristil in the 88th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A big swing on Tyrice Knight at No. 91, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 125 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots to take Malik Mustapha, a safety that was not the priority.
Jawhar Jordan in pick 203 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Dwight McGlothern at slot 217, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Jase McClellan at par in Round 6, Pick 44, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for J.J. Weaver here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
