Thirty-one other rooms let T.J. Tampa slide, and the Packers were the ones holding the card at pick No. 88. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter.
Malik Nabers in pick No. 41 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quinyon Mitchell in No. 57 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
T.J. Tampa at slot 88 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a linebacker like Jeremiah Trotter Jr. reach Round 3, Pick 28 and blink. They did not. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A safety of that caliber at the 125th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Bucky Irving in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Kitan Oladapo in pick 171, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Matthew Jones at Round 6, Pick 28 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Ethan Driskell was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Isaiah Davis at slot 219 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Joshua Cephus in pick 246 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
