The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Malik Mustapha fell into the 203rd overall pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 25. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Quinyon Mitchell in pick No. 41, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kamren Kinchens in pick 57 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Somehow Jonathon Brooks was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 25, and they pounced on premier running back value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Mike Sainristil higher than No. 91, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sataoa Laumea at the 135th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malik Mustapha at the 203rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach slot 217 and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Matthew Jones at pick 219 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Proctor at Round 7, Pick 26 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
