The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Brandon Dorlus, the No. 56 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will need Proctor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at slot 44 is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Edgerrin Cooper in the 59th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Trey Benson slipping to pick No. 88 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Brandon Dorlus in the Round 3 slot is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ainias Smith at No. 125 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Malik Mustapha in Round 4, Pick 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick 140 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Josh Proctor in the 164th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in No. 203, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Jaylen Harrell higher than the 217th overall pick, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trevor Keegan in Round 6, Pick 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reach for Dwight McGlothern in slot 246; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
