The rest of the league had time to spare on McKade Mettauer; the Packers did not wait, grabbing him 34 spots ahead at pick 246. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. However the rest shakes out, Bertrand at that price is a win they earned.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Kamren Kinchens at No. 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: T.J. Tampa still on the board at the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Junior Colson in slot 88, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Christian Haynes in the 91st pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jarrian Jones at pick No. 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Jaylen Wright at No. 135, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jared Wiley at the 203rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They will replay JD Bertrand at pick 217 for years; that is how good the value is. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Joshua Cephus at the 219th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on McKade Mettauer in pick No. 246, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
