The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Dallin Holker, the Round 6 slot, roughly 58 picks past where he belonged.
If Mettauer pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Packers indulged a want in Mustapha while a need in quarterback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Calen Bullock at slot 48, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 57 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Marist Liufau at the 88th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Kris Jenkins in the Round 3 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Audric Estime. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A curious use of pick 125. Quarterback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Malik Mustapha did not.
They barely believed it either: Khyree Jackson still on the board at the 135th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malik Mustapha slid further than he should have, and pick No. 155 is lovely value for the safety. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A tidy little value on Kitan Oladapo in the Round 5 slot, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Dallin Holker in No. 203 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: Christian Jones at the 217th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Matthew Jones at the 219th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
McKade Mettauer in Round 7, Pick 26 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
