The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Braelon Allen fell into the 203rd overall pick.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Wright pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a building block for the line, outstanding value to boot.
Nate Wiggins in pick No. 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Calen Bullock higher than slot 57, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 88 with a little surplus value in Mike Sainristil. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kamal Hadden at the 125th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylen Wright this early at No. 135. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Braelon Allen at the 203rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay JD Bertrand at slot 217 for years; that is how good the value is. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Matthew Jones at No. 219 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Joshua Cephus went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
