The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Kingsley Suamataia, the No. 53 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Nubin pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
If Kinchens pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a rangy last line of defense, though they paid up to get him.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Tyler Nubin, a safety that was not the priority.
Nothing to complain about; Jackson Powers-Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Junior Colson at No. 88 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Somehow Kingsley Suamataia was still sitting there in slot 91, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, MarShawn Lloyd went about where he belonged in the 125th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Kamal Hadden at Round 4, Pick 35, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Christian Jones at pick 203 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Tanor Bortolini at par in pick No. 217, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jawhar Jordan in the 219th overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Joshua Cephus in No. 246. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
