The Packers bet big and early on McKade Mettauer, 34 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They banked enough surplus on Clark to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

In the 30th pick they get a two-high chess piece at fair value.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the Round 2 slot on Kamren Kinchens with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick 57 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
By-the-book stuff, Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 25 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in No. 91: Cooper Beebe for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Bucky Irving in slot 93, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Kamal Hadden at pick No. 125 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Ben Sinnott at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Jordan Magee at par in the 203rd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A wild overpay on Matthew Jones in pick 217, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
De'Corian Clark in the 219th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
McKade Mettauer at Round 7, Pick 26 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
