The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
The Estime steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Za'Darius Smith leading the way.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims in the 25th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Chris Braswell in slot 55 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 25 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Mike Sainristil in the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tykee Smith at the 88th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at No. 91, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board fumbled Audric Estime all the way to the 125th pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Kamal Hadden at the 135th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Kitan Oladapo in slot 159; it is a wash and a sensible one. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tanor Bortolini a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Matthew Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Jawhar Jordan come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Nathaniel Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
