The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jonathon Brooks, the 88th overall pick, roughly 28 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Proctor reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Tyler Nubin worth more than the price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 57th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A running back of that caliber at No. 88 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Zak Zinter in pick 91 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 126 with a little surplus value in Jarrian Jones. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Josh Proctor at the 168th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
