The rest of the league will want that one back. Zak Zinter tumbling to the Packers in pick 115 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Cephus pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
T.J. Tampa in pick No. 49 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Calen Bullock at slot 57 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Marist Liufau in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Audric Estime at the 91st pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Zak Zinter in No. 115, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
MarShawn Lloyd at pick 125 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Javon Foster at Round 4, Pick 35. It fills a real need, too.
Fair-plus on Jaheim Bell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Christian Jones higher than the 203rd pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Value with a capital V on Jalen Green in the 217th overall pick, a genuine coup. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid up for Joshua Cephus at Round 6, Pick 44 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
