The Packers went off the board in a big way for Decamerion Richardson, 61 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The bottom line is a respectable B.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Packers indulged a want in Mustapha while a need in edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots stayed open.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Amarius Mims reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nice patience on Junior Colson, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 31. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Khyree Jackson at pick 88 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trey Benson at No. 91 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tykee Smith in the 120th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jarrian Jones well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A curious use of the Round 4 slot. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Malik Mustapha did not.
They will replay Tommy Eichenberg at No. 168 for years; that is how good the value is. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They went early on Tanor Bortolini in pick No. 204, and the value did not follow. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Joe Milton III in slot 216, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tyrice Knight in Round 7, Pick 23 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They talked themselves into Decamerion Richardson at the 251st pick, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
