When a board-topper like Terrion Arnold slides to the Round 2 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.
They will need Wallace to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and wide receiver still on the board.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Terrion Arnold at slot 56 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at pick No. 58, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Khyree Jackson in the 87th overall pick, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trey Benson in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Javon Bullard at No. 91 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A want over a need in Round 4, Pick 27: Tykee Smith adds a safety while edge rusher and wide receiver keeps waiting.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Jefferson in the 168th pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jordan Travis at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trevin Wallace at pick 204 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reach for Tyler Owens in No. 216; a little patience would have been rewarded. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tip Reiman in pick No. 243, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Marcellas Dial in Round 7, Pick 31, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
