Green Bay Packers

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

The Packers spent real capital to be 54 picks early on Trey Taylor, and the board is going to hold them to it. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCaffrey. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, tight end and other spots. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 19
In the 25th pick they get an island corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 39
They will replay Tyler Nubin at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
A quiet steal in slot 88: Cooper Beebe for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 79
Jaylen Wright is a better player than pick No. 91 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 147
A surprising call. With edge rusher, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent pick 127 on Tykee Smith, a safety they were not short of.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 167
A straight-up fair deal on Kamal Hadden at the 168th pick, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Somehow Luke McCaffrey was still sitting there in slot 204, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 199
Nice patience on Joe Milton III, who had no business lasting to pick No. 216. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 297
Trey Taylor at Round 7, Pick 23 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 240
Value with a capital V on Kimani Vidal in the 251st overall pick, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
