You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Trey Taylor at slot 245, roughly 52 spots before his name belonged.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a blindside protector at fair value.
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 9 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Javon Bullard in slot 58 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid up for MarShawn Lloyd at the 88th pick when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A big swing on Isaac Guerendo at the 91st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent pick 125 on Tykee Smith, a safety they were not short of.
Jarrian Jones at slot 168 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A quiet steal in pick 201: Elijah Jones for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tip Reiman at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Trey Taylor in pick No. 245 is miles ahead of his ranking. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at No. 255 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
