The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: T.J. Tampa, the No. 48 name on the board, sitting there at the 88th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.

The cost of the Vidal reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 37
They paid sticker price for Jordan Morgan in the 35th pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 46
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 9. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 57
No edge and no loss on Javon Bullard in No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 43
The board fumbled T'Vondre Sweat all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 48
T.J. Tampa in pick No. 88 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 99
They paid a round early for MarShawn Lloyd in pick 91, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 100
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 126 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 137
Jarrian Jones in the 138th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
They took Tykee Smith at par in slot 162, which is nothing to complain about. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Malik Mustapha · S · rank 171
Malik Mustapha at the 169th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at pick 202, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 252
They reached a country mile for Kimani Vidal at No. 219, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 267
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Trey Taylor well ahead of where he belonged. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
Tyler Owens in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
