There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Frank Crum, 40 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Smith steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Troy Fautanu at par in No. 25, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 43rd pick squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They liked Sedrick Van Pran enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 58. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy little value on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 25, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in the Round 3 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Isaac Guerendo in the 126th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They jumped the gun on Nathaniel Watson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They went early on Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 219, and the value did not follow. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Trey Taylor at pick 245 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They reached a country mile for Frank Crum at the 255th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
