More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

Nobody else had Trey Taylor anywhere near pick No. 245. The Packers did, by 22 spots, and that gap is the whole story.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is not that Green is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 25
No drama and no debate, Graham Barton went about where he belonged in slot 27. The roster fit checks out.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 51
They took Junior Colson at par in No. 51, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 60
Javon Bullard in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Renardo Green · S · rank 78
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Renardo Green at safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Jaden Hicks, a safety that was not the priority.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson in the 90th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 89
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at the 91st pick squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 116
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Elijah Jones at pick No. 126 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to pick 169. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 211
Logan Lee at Round 6, Pick 27 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 221
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on JD Bertrand. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 267
A big swing on Trey Taylor at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 255
Tyler Owens at the 255th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
