The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 219 on Dallas Gant a full 103 spots early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Smith pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in pick No. 58; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaden Hicks at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at the 91st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Isaac Guerendo at pick 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Tykee Smith, who had no business lasting to the 169th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tyler Owens this early at pick 202. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Dallas Gant in the 219th pick, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Crum well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Kimani Vidal in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
