The Packers went off the board in a big way for Dallas Gant, 76 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That Fautanu pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Troy Fautanu at No. 41 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Junior Colson in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick No. 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Max Melton slipping to the 91st pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Beaux Limmer. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tykee Smith at the Round 5 slot is the proof. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A straight-up fair deal on Kendall Milton at pick 202, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyler Owens well ahead of where he belonged. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
