The tape said wait; the Packers did not. Dallas Gant went at Round 7, Pick 25, a good 76 picks before the board was ready.
Legette at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in slot 58, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Legette at the 88th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 91 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jarrian Jones at Round 4, Pick 26 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Malik Mustapha went about where he belonged in slot 169. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid a round early for Nathaniel Watson in Round 6, Pick 27, more than the board wanted. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They talked themselves into Tyler Owens at the 219th overall pick, and the board did not agree. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Dallas Gant in pick No. 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They let Bub Means come to them and pounced at pick 255. It fills a real need, too.
