The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Dallas Gant, taking him 76 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They banked enough surplus on Guerendo to cover a lot of smaller sins. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.25
· Pick 25
· Quinyon Mitchell
· CB
· rank 19
In pick 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9
· Pick 41
· Edgerrin Cooper
· LB
· rank 49
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.26
· Pick 58
· Sedrick Van Pran
· C
· rank 72
Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 58 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.25
· Pick 88
· Trey Benson
· RB
· rank 87
No edge and no loss on Trey Benson in No. 88; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.26
· Pick 126
· Elijah Jones
· CB
· rank 115
Elijah Jones is a better player than the 126th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.4
· Pick 140
· Tykee Smith
· S
· rank 160
Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 4 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.33
· Pick 169
· Isaac Guerendo
· RB
· rank 128
They barely believed it either: Isaac Guerendo still on the board at the 169th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.27
· Pick 202
· Kamal Hadden
· CB
· rank 168
Kamal Hadden at pick No. 202 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.44
· Pick 219
· Trente Jones
· OT
· rank 194
The board fumbled Trente Jones all the way to slot 219, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.5
· Pick 225
· Edefuan Ulofoshio
· LB
· rank 236
Edefuan Ulofoshio in the Round 7 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.25
· Pick 245
· Dallas Gant
· LB
· rank 321
Dallas Gant at pick 245 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.35
· Pick 255
· Bub Means
· WR
· rank 245
Bub Means at No. 255 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
