The Packers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Dallas Gant at No. 255 regardless, 65 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They banked enough surplus on Pritchett to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in the 58th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Jaden Hicks at slot 83 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A quiet steal in pick No. 88: Jaylen Wright for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Renardo Green adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Beaux Limmer at pick No. 126 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Kitan Oladapo in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Somehow Nehemiah Pritchett was still sitting there in pick 169, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They jumped the gun on Nathaniel Watson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Value said wait; Bub Means in slot 219 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Frank Crum, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on Dallas Gant in No. 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
