There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Joe Milton III, 90 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Magee. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
The Green pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end and interior defensive lineman still on the board.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jordan Morgan at the 41st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Jaden Hicks went about where he belonged in the 58th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman to take Renardo Green, a safety that was not the priority.
They paid sticker price for MarShawn Lloyd in No. 91, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Joe Milton III at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Nathaniel Watson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Taking Jordan Magee in slot 202 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Ryan Watts at Round 6, Pick 44 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bub Means in pick No. 245. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Dallas Gant in the 255th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
