It is the swing that defines the weekend: Taulia Tagovailoa in the 219th overall pick, a good 87 spots before the room expected him.
The Magee value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher and interior defensive lineman went begging.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Jaden Hicks at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaylen Wright at the 91st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Christian Haynes here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher and interior defensive lineman to take Renardo Green, a safety that was not the priority.
A tidy little value on Jarrian Jones in the 130th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tight end of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nathaniel Watson at the 179th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Ryan Watts in Round 6, Pick 27 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Magee at pick No. 218 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 219, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick 245, where Bub Means graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Dallas Gant in slot 255 says they were not listening. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
