It is the swing that defines the weekend: Joe Milton III in pick No. 169, a good 47 spots before the room expected him. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

The Puni steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Bullock pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots still on the board.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
In the 25th pick they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 39
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 19, with Payton Wilson worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 64
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in pick No. 60, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 54
They barely believed it either: Javon Bullard still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Calen Bullock · S · rank 88
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Calen Bullock in pick 88 leaves edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots for later.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the 91st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 89
Circle this one: Dominick Puni at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 138
A premium they did not need to pay, Isaac Guerendo a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.8 · Pick 144 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 139
Elijah Jones at the 144th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 216
Joe Milton III at the 169th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 223
They left a pile of value on the table to take JD Bertrand this early at pick 202. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 215
Jaylan Ford at pick No. 219 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 233
Ryan Watts slid further than he should have, and slot 245 is lovely value for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.28 · Pick 248 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 268
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 248 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Frank Crum · OT · rank 254
No edge and no loss on Frank Crum in Round 7, Pick 35; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
