The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 174 on Logan Lee a full 69 spots early.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Morgan at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They will replay Jordan Morgan at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Edgerrin Cooper slipping to No. 58 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dominick Puni in slot 87 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in the 88th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Braelon Allen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Tykee Smith at pick No. 126, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nathaniel Watson well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Logan Lee at the 174th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ryan Watts this early at the 202nd overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid up for Bub Means at slot 219 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a linebacker like JD Bertrand reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid a round early for Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 35, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
