Somebody in the 88th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while T.J. Tampa, the No. 58 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in No. 41. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaden Hicks at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Taking T.J. Tampa in pick 88 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in the 91st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
