Somewhere a general manager is explaining how De'Corian Clark got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 217.
If Nelson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Spending an early pick on defensive back with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went defensive back with Javon Bullard while clear needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat open.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 43 on T.J. Tampa, a defensive back they were not short of.
They took Ruke Orhorhoro at par in the 70th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
TreVeyon Henderson in pick 73 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 82nd pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Shilo Sanders at No. 109 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 135 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Miles Frazier at slot 187 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 44 with a little surplus value in Chau Smith-Wade. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Zion Nelson at the 230th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
