Somewhere a general manager is explaining how De'Corian Clark got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 217.

If Nelson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Spending an early pick on defensive back with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.21 · Pick 21 · Javon Bullard · DB · rank 20
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went defensive back with Javon Bullard while clear needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat open.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 36
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 46
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · T.J. Tampa · DB · rank 40
A surprising call. With edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 43 on T.J. Tampa, a defensive back they were not short of.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 69
They took Ruke Orhorhoro at par in the 70th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.9 · Pick 73 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 90
TreVeyon Henderson in pick 73 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 94
They went early on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 82nd pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 117
Shilo Sanders at No. 109 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 105
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at pick 135 is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.12 · Pick 187 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 198
Miles Frazier at slot 187 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 173
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Chau Smith-Wade · DB · rank 212
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 44 with a little surplus value in Chau Smith-Wade. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 258
Zion Nelson at the 230th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
