The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Luke McCaffrey fell into Round 5, Pick 32. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Reaching for James left real value on the table behind him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value.
Troy Fautanu slipping to Round 2, Pick 9 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 57 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zak Zinter in the 88th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Bucky Irving in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at No. 126 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They will replay Luke McCaffrey at the 168th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Austin Stogner went about where he belonged in pick 203. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sam Hartman at slot 216 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Trey Taylor in Round 7, Pick 23, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeremy James a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
