· 8 picks
· 1 steals
· 4 reaches
The Packers did not so much draft Malik Washington as overpay for him, 76 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Landing Kamara that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 19 they get a true top target, a steep price for the projection.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Malik Washington at pick No. 83 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Tykee Smith at the 92nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in slot 119, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had Mohamed Kamara higher than pick 135, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Matthew Jones at No. 197, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
