Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the Round 3 slot on Khristian Boyd, a name most had 87 spots down the list. The final tally is a middling C+.
Getting Reiman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A big swing on Cole Bishop at Round 2, Pick 9, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Payton Wilson in slot 58 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Mason McCormick at pick 88 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Javon Foster in the 89th overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
Khristian Boyd at pick No. 91 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Elijah Jones, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 26. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dylan Laube at the 169th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Donovan Jennings, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Omar Brown in No. 219 says they were not listening. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
You do not let a tight end like Tip Reiman reach pick No. 220 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board had cheaper options than Ryan Watts at pick 245, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kedon Slovis. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Trajan Jeffcoat at the 255th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
