Somebody in pick 77 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Junior Colson, the No. 52 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The Allen reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Chris Braswell at par in No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Payton Wilson in the 58th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in pick No. 60. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent the 77th pick on Junior Colson, a linebacker they were not short of.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
