There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Jaheim Bell, 78 picks ahead of schedule.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Joel Bitonio leading the way.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Xavier Worthy was the payoff at the 43rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jaheim Bell. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in slot 82, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Tate Ratledge at Round 4, Pick 1 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Blake Fisher at No. 109 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Shilo Sanders in Round 4, Pick 14 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They liked Darius Robinson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 135. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in No. 138. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Nelson Ceaser in pick No. 187, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A real head-scratcher, Eric Gentry in slot 217 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 219th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Bru McCoy in the 230th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
