Call it larceny. Johnny Wilson sat on the board until the 168th pick, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Wallace reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Taking Amarius Mims in Round 2, Pick 9 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 58th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Max Melton in pick 88 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Kingsley Suamataia was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Sataoa Laumea at No. 127 is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Johnny Wilson at the 168th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They barely believed it either: Luke McCaffrey still on the board at slot 204. A need, and now a little less of one.
Trevin Wallace in pick 216 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jalen Green in slot 243 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tyler Owens at the 251st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
