They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Packers' quarterback, full stop. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Nugent pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
J.J. McCarthy at pick 22 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They jumped the gun on Kris Jenkins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Blake Corum at the 51st overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Edwards in Round 3, Pick 19, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Drake Nugent in pick No. 92 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Junior Colson in No. 119. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mike Sainristil. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Michael Barrett in slot 197, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
No edge and no loss on Zakhari Franklin in No. 217; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Turner Corcoran at the 219th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Donell Harris Jr. at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
