It is a puzzling start. The Packers had edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to solve and reached instead for Cedric Gray, a linebacker, at the 124th overall pick.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Bortolini has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. However the rest shakes out, Mitchell at that price is a win they earned.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 31 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Cooper Beebe in the 44th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at No. 45, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 26 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at pick No. 88 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Good price on Braelon Allen in slot 112, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Cedric Gray, a linebacker they were not short of.
Johnny Wilson in the 126th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tanor Bortolini well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Caedan Wallace in Round 6, Pick 44, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
