Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent the 219th pick on Eyabi Okie-Anoma, a name most had 65 spots down the list.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Smith-Wade. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Javon Bullard at par in the 41st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 48, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Braelon Allen in pick 88 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Justin Eboigbe. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Chau Smith-Wade in No. 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Garret Greenfield in pick No. 202, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma in slot 219 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Darius Muasau at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Dominique Hampton at No. 255 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
