You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Keith Randolph Jr. in the 125th overall pick.
That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nice patience on Tyler Nubin, who had no business lasting to No. 41. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good price on Kiran Amegadjie in Round 2, Pick 25, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christian Mahogany at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Braden Fiske at pick 91. A need, and now a little less of one.
Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 125 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Will Shipley at Round 4, Pick 35 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah Williams in pick 203. The roster fit checks out.
Sam Hartman at slot 217 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Magee at No. 219 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Mark Perry in the 246th overall pick, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
