The trade table was where it all came apart. The Packers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
The cost of the Corum reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On value alone, Thrash makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 8 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Blake Corum in slot 41 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Travis at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Emeka Egbuka at the 73rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Byron Murphy II at pick 82 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Max Melton in the 109th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Cole Bishop went about where he belonged in No. 135. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Jamari Thrash was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 230 is the definition of value, full stop. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
