Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Dwight McGlothern got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 27.
If Tagovailoa pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a No. 1 receiver. A real need, handled.
Amarius Mims slid further than he should have, and pick No. 41 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edgerrin Cooper at pick 58. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Trey Benson at par in Round 3, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in the 91st overall pick with a little surplus value in Jaden Hicks. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy little value on Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Javion Cohen at No. 169 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Dwight McGlothern in slot 202 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Curtis Jacobs in the 219th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
By-the-book stuff, Josh Proctor at No. 245 squarely in line with his ranking. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
They reached a country mile for Taulia Tagovailoa at the 255th pick, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
