Green Bay Packers

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Packers and Greenfield: C.

The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Garret Greenfield, the No. 217 name on the board, sitting there at No. 245 like a gift left on the doorstep. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Solomon pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still on the board.

The Cooper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 24
In No. 25 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
They paid a round early for Edgerrin Cooper in the 41st overall pick, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
Value with a capital V on Javon Bullard in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 81
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick 88 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 97
MarShawn Lloyd in pick No. 91 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 116
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javon Solomon at OLB-EDGE with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
A tidy bit of business in slot 169, where Kitan Oladapo graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Trente Jones · OT · rank 195
Trente Jones in the 202nd pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 214
A tidy little value on Nathaniel Watson in pick 219, a step better than break-even. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 217
Garret Greenfield at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Marcellas Dial · CB · rank 244
Nice patience on Marcellas Dial, who had no business lasting to the 255th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 247
Jalen Sundell slipping to No. 256 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Solomon Byrd · DE-EDGE · rank 262
They took Solomon Byrd at par in Round 7, Pick 39, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
