Somebody in Round 7, Pick 35 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Packers sat still while Steele Chambers, the No. 200 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will answer for taking safety early while cornerback went begging.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot.
Taking Olumuyiwa Fashanu in Round 2, Pick 9 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Tyler Nubin all the way to pick No. 58, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at No. 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kamren Kinchens at safety with cornerback open.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, DeWayne Carter in the 126th overall pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tip Reiman in slot 169 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Trevor Keegan in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dylan Laube at pick 202 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Javontae Jean-Baptiste at the 219th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sam Hartman in pick No. 245 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steele Chambers at the Round 7 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
