The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named quarterback, a need the Packers walked right past. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The cost of the Allen reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Getting Turner where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in slot 41, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Calen Bullock in pick 57, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
They did well to land Roman Wilson in Round 3, Pick 25, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Kris Abrams-Draine, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Braelon Allen, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan Magee is a better player than pick No. 203 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Brevyn Spann-Ford at par in Round 6, Pick 42, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 219 with a little surplus value in Sheridan Jones. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
