They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: McCallan Castles, 84 picks early at slot 255. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
They banked enough surplus on Gould to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. With edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Graham Barton at the 49th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at pick No. 62 is the proof. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value with a capital V on Ricky Pearsall in pick 76, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Kamren Kinchens at slot 91 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Kiran Amegadjie in Round 4, Pick 4 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Dominick Puni all the way to No. 113, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with James Williams while clear needs at edge rusher sat open.
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A slide stopped in the 136th pick, with Isaac Guerendo worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Jordan Travis in pick 138, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Hunter Nourzad at slot 166 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
They paid a round early for Fabien Lovett in pick No. 169, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a cornerback like Ro Torrence reach No. 202 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick No. 207, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Anthony Gould still on the board at the 219th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Justin Rogers at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Julian Pearl at the 245th pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
